The Little White Owl by Tracey Corderoy Art Project

The Little White Owl by Tracey Corderoy is a darling book that my children absolutely love. It is about a little owl who sets out on an adventure. While he is flying around he discovers a bunch of very colorful birds who are at first very unkind to him because he doesn't quiet look like they do. The Little White Owl is a story that celebrates the differences and the beauty inside all of us.
To go along with our owl themed learning unit I read The Little White Owl to Little Red and then we had some fun painting. We decided that we loved this page in the book that shows the little white owl amongst the colorful owls. So we got to work!
(my example-yes, I have too much fun painting with my children)
First we used an owl stencil from our Usborne Spooky Stencil Cards that we have and traced the owls on our page in all different directions. Then we watercolored the background.
(Here is Little Red's example who is 5 years old.)
After the background dried we used different colors of acrylic paint to paint the owls with. We had so much fun deciding which colors to use and what types of patterns to paint on our owls.
The last thing we did after our owls dried was to draw a few details with a black sharpie. I love Little Red's white owl shown in this close up. She wanted to make sure her owl was holding the teddy bear and jelly sandwich just like the white owl in the book. I love how artistic she is!
Here is an up close of one of my owls.
Here is an up close of one of Little Red's owls. Don't you love the eyelashes?!? She wanted to make sure you could tell which ones were the girls. She loves making everything fancy!
