Glad Monster, Sad Monster - Art Project for Children

I am really excited to share the Glad Monster, Sad Monster Art Lesson I did with my 1st grade classes. O.K., I am always excited to share things with you. The great thing is my cute little Kindergarten daughter was able to make this art project as well and she did an awesome job.

I started out the art lesson by reading Ed Emberley and Anne Miranda's wonderful, Glad Monster, Sad Monster book. This particular book that is by Ed Emberley and Anne Miranda talks all about feelings and emotions. The book introduces different monsters that are feeling glad, sad, mad, nervous, excited, etc. and contains bright, vibrant colors and fun shapes that kids (and adults) just love.

After we discussed the monsters in the book (i.e., the shapes used to convey the monster's feelings, the colors used for each monster that expressed a feeling, etc.) we started our art project.

Here is the "Glad Monster, Sad Monster" my Kindergarten daughter made:
So cute!!!!

Here are a few of my favorites from my 1st grade classes. I have over 100 1st grade students, so it was really hard for me to choose which completed projects to share with you.
Don't you love the teeth on the orange monster?
Isn't the background behind the green monster wonderful!?!
I love how happy the green monster looks and the ears are great!

I have two more exciting Halloween Art lessons (with free printables) my 2nd and 3rd grade classes just finished that I can't wait to share with you! So, come back to "My Shae Noel Blog" soon!

Want more detailed instructions on how to make these adorable monsters? I have just added my Glad Monster, Sad Monster inspired Art Lesson Plan to my Learn and Grow Designs shops:

Love this book, and I love how your student samples turned out. The variety makes them so cute and how fun to have hanging up for halloween. I'm excited to see your art lesson plans. Can't wait to see more.
