Easter Egg Garland Watercolor Art Project for Kids with Printable Egg Template

I was so excited to display my daughter's "Easter Egg Garland" they made on our mantle this year. Isn't it darling and doesn't it just put a big smile on your face? "Little Blonde" and "Little Red" actually made this garland 2 years ago when they were only 5 and 7 years old. When we took the garland out of our Easter storage container to hang up, I realized that I never shared it with you on my blog. So, I am sharing it with you today.

Easter Egg Watercolor Resist Garland Tutorial
Materials Needed:
  • Easter Egg Garland Template (link below), printed on white cardstock. Print as many Easter eggs as you want to display (we painted 10 eggs).
  • White Crayon
  • Watercolors
  • Paintbrush
  • Water
  • String to Hang it Up (we used Baker's Twine)
Optional:
  • An assortment of ribbon to tie in between the eggs for added embellishment.
  • Colorful buttons adhered with glue dots to the center of the Easter eggs.
  • I also laminated the Easter Eggs for durability.
First, my little ones drew different designs on their "Easter Egg Templates" with a white crayon.
Next we took out our watercolors and the girls painted on top of their crayon designs. The crayon acts as a resist and the watercolors only fill in the negative space.
Here is one of the Easter Eggs painted pretty with the adorable designs showing through.
Look at all of those colorful Easter Eggs drying! I even joined in on the fun and painted an Easter Egg myself. Who says this art project is just for kids?
After all of these gorgeous Easter Eggs dried, my girls cut the eggs out. Don't you love how colorful they are?

Here are some up close photos of the completed "Easter Egg Garland".  I absolutely loved how all of the Easter Eggs turned out and I thought my daughter's did such a wonderful job creating them.
My girls had so much fun making this Easter Egg Garland that they asked me if they could make another one this year. :)

Those are beautiful! I'm definitely keeping this idea for next year... and of course we can use this crayon/watercolor concept on other projects... Thanks! :)

Such a fun idea. Love that you added the crayon resist element to the watercoloring.
